oatmeal
Quoting Israeli Journalist Israel Frey: "We cannot sugar-coat reality"

Israeli journalist Israel Frey speaks out after being investigated by police for his social media posts. He refuses to be silenced despite intimidation tactics, stating: "The voice of morality, conscience and justice will continue to be heard despite their efforts." Frey criticizes ongoing oppression in #Palestine, including the massacre in #Gaza and detention conditions. He emphasizes that true equality will eventually prevail despite the current political climate.

[…] When I arrived at the interrogation, I was confronted with a series of completely legitimate tweets I had published. Common to all of them is the distinction I insist on making between the reprehensible harm to civilians, women and children versus warfare or harm to armed security forces, particularly in apartheid territories. This distinction is factually necessary and morally correct. Even in Israel, which has been founded from its first day on Jewish supremacy and the oppression of the other people. This standard exists and is present in discourse - both in media terminology and in the statements of politicians, leaders and opinion makers. The attempt to blur this distinction is essentially an attempt to erase the existence of the asymmetrical situation between the occupier and the occupied, between the oppressor and the oppressed.

[…] Oppression has various faces and methods. It begins with the expulsion of residents from more than 600 villages in 1948 and 1949, continues with military rule and a more elegant occupation with a military legal system of 'Civil Administration.' Certainly now the oppression is more blatant. We've moved from a supposedly 'enlightened' occupation, with slick language and attempts to present the sophisticated map of oppression in a way more palatable to Israelis and to the outside world, to a much more explicit place. Now they're not ashamed of killing children and don't even pretend to maintain any morality within the oppression.

Source https://zoha.org.il/136171

@palestine
@israel
#IsraelWarCrimes #Nakba
