We're now in a world trade war and the USA is the bad guy.

So here’s the proposal:

Through a UN resolution, the rules-based world launches a coordinated, economic strike against the USA with all countries simultaneously putting 100% tariffs on the USA while lifting all tariffs between participating countries, until the USA backs off and returns to the WTO process.

Nonsense?

Possible?

I don't know how any of this works frankly. But I don’t think anyone does.

In the next few weeks, I’m expecting to see clever and creative ways that countries use to retaliate against US tariffs without going head-to-head.

The hubris and thoughtlessness in this administration suggests to me that they did *not* think two moves ahead; I think they will be surprised at some of the legal jiu-jitsu maneuvers we’ll see shortly.

I’m fully expecting to say “Oh wow, I never would have thought of that!” many times in the following days. 🍿

Despite proclaiming it “liberation day,” the Trump administration’s tariffs are hurting the U.S. economy, increasing inflation, and leaving America isolated on the global stage. President Donald Trump’s decision to unilaterally launch a global trade war could be one of the worst economic statecraft blunders in American history. The administration has imposed tariffs to an extent that would have been unimaginable a short time ago. The rest of the world is now subject to tariffs ranging from 10% to 50% , in many cases on top of existing tariffs already in place. This was all done with little preference given to countries that are allies or whose exports are critical to support the U.S. economy. Trump’s trade war will cost American families dearly by raising consumer prices. It has already reduced their savings in the stock market. And, it is bound to fail at one thing Trump promised to do: bring back jobs.

“You want high-efficiency motors in your EVs and offshore wind turbines? You want night-vision goggles, sonar systems, or magnetostrictive actuators? You’re going to need terbium. Like dysprosium, terbium comes almost exclusively from Chinese soil, processed in Chinese facilities, and licensed by Chinese bureaucrats with a nuanced appreciation for geopolitical leverage. There’s no viable substitute … “
