Richard Rollinson<p>Finally! Things have come together well enough for me to begin moving some of the hardier seedlings in to the greenhouse. It took a while to clean up the space to make room for things, because the greenhouse ends up being catch-all storage all winter. We have beets, cabbage, parsley, lettuce, viola Cleome and Verbena moved so far. I'll watch the weather and move more when I can. Then the great potting-on can begin. 2 wks late, but OK<br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/NewEngland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewEngland</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Zone6b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Zone6b</span></a> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/gardening" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>gardening</span></a></span></p>
Richard Rollinson<p>Got a clean bill of health from the surgeon on Monday, so I'm slowly getting back into garden work after having the gall bladder removed. Things are starting to sprout, even though it's been quite cold and wet. I think the tide is turning and the garden season is about to start. I always enjoy seeing the ancient rhubarb bed come to life as a harbinger of things to come! 😀 <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/NewEngland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewEngland</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Zone6b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Zone6b</span></a> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/gardening" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>gardening</span></a></span></p>

clarebee<p>Fellow Northern Brits - what seeds are you sowing out already? </p><p>Saw a forecast for frosts/snow (!) later in April and now not sure what I'm doing... No greenhouse, v limited windowsill acreage... Still go ahead with broad beans/beetroot etc? </p><p>Thanks! </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>allotment</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/GrowYourOwn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GrowYourOwn</span></a></p>
Richard Rollinson<p>Had a minor setback on my gardening spring this year. My Gall bladder burst on 22 March and I've been in hospital until yesterday. My daughter (the Botanist) stepped in and came home for a few days to keep things ticking over in the propagation room. My somewhat limited mobility and lifting restrictions are going to make things interesting for a while... All the best, everyone!<br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/NewEngland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewEngland</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/zone6b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zone6b</span></a> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/gardening" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>gardening</span></a></span></p>
Broadfork<p>Early potatoes are dibbed in, covered with soil and then with hessian covers. I’m interested to see what the badgers do with them. </p><p>The beds have been regularly visited by badgers rooting around for earthworms since autumn. Sadly, they have had too much of a good thing. <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/NoDig" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NoDig</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/Gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Gardening</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a></p>
Broadfork<p>The first nettle harvest of the year. Nettle soup will be on tomorrow’s menu and I’ll start making some nettle fermented plant juice too. </p><p>Good food for us and good food for the plants. </p><p>Nettles are a great addition to a compost heap too. <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/GrowYourOwn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GrowYourOwn</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/Gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Gardening</span></a></p>
Colin Purrington<p>Dug up some weeds today at the plot and left them to desiccate on a bucket for a few days (some have extensive roots). I like to display them, in part, as a lesson to other weeds that might be thinking about germinating (just don't). In a few days I'll slide them into the nearby pit of despair for eventual burial. <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/GrowYourOwn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GrowYourOwn</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/garden" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>garden</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>allotment</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/weeds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>weeds</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/composting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>composting</span></a></p>
