People make a fuss about the #energy needed to electrify personal automotive transport. Some numbers from my previous #EV.
I owned a Tesla Model 3 for 6.5 years. During this time it drove 72,000 miles. That's a little below US averages.
My car used 22 MWh of energy. This is worse than typical for the model, due to my driving being more highway and more winter than typical.
Power is energy over time. My car used 22 MWh over 6.5 years, so: my car used 390 watts. Sure it drew 11 kW charging at home and >200 kW charging on a road trip, but much more of the time it wasn't charging at all. Overall, 390W.
You know what else is 390W? 6.3 of my #solar panels. Despite being located in northern Minnesota, suboptimally mounted, occasionally covered in snow, etc., 6.3 of my solar panels can produce the 22 MWh used by my car in the 6.5 years my car used that energy.
Imagine parking the car with a 12" gap in front, to the left, and to the right. That's a tight parking spot! It's also slightly larger than 6.3 of my solar panels.
Sure, there's infrastructure challenges around DC fast charging, and dispatching opportunities, and other interesting topics here. But energy? C'mon.

So far so good. The scheduled power outage started about 7:40 am, but I was able to quickly restore power to the fridge-freezer, the NBN box & WiFi router, the lizard's heat lamp and lighting, and my working from home monitor, laptop, etc.
I have the Vehicle-to-Load adaptor plugged into the car, two extra heavy duty 30 metre long extension cables plugged onto that inside a weatherproof power board box, and a mess of additional power boards and extension cords inside the house. Fortunately, apart from the fridge which is directly connected to the V2L adaptor, it's all very low power so having lots of long cables will be OK.
Being able to work from home pretty much as I normally do on Wednesdays is nice, but not having to worry about everything in the freezer defrosting is really, really nice.

There are only 4 EV chargers at work, and about a billion EV's. Needless to say charging is Thunderdome at work.
I got to work at 7:45am and all spots were already taken, but one of the spots was taken by a Mach-E that is NOT PLUGGED IN. I got ICE'd by an EV.
It's currently 12:12pm and they are still there.... I have not been able to get a charger yet.....

A comprehensive introduction to charging electric vehicles from my favorite #EV website, but they might be overdoing it a bit IMHO. For those of you starting from scratch, there are 3 charging levels (in the US). Level 1 is 110 volt AC wall outlet that we have used for nearly 8 years now, it’s slow but we’re retired & don’t commute. Level 2 is 220 volt AC for overnight charging and is more common for people who commute to work or ‘destination chargers’ such as hotels or businesses. Level 3 is high power DC chargers that you use on a long trip or if you can’t charge at home (like an apartment). We almost never use level 3 DC chargers anymore and prefer destination chargers as they are more convenient and we don’t like to drive more than 3 or 4 hours a day nowadays. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, if I don’t know the answer, someone else surely will.

For reference, I have asthma, joint pain, social anxiety, and depression.
Exercise is great, yeah, but ADHD and capitalism make it difficult to schedule, plan for, adapt, and undergo.
The parasomnia means I can't guarantee being rested enough to drive to class on time.
I think technically you're not supposed to cycle either, if you're not rested / sober enough, but I take mild issue with that.
A bicycle is NOT capable of causing as much damage as a damn car, even a tiny Smart ForTwo car.
(Obv this won't help if you have severe joint issues, unsafe roads, or lack storage for it, but still. Fantastic commute option, personally. Just needs a rain canopy that somehow survives harsh English winds and we'd be laughing all the way to the bank. Of a very pretty river.)

Countries that are still fighting to reverse the climate crisis haven’t changed their minds about buying EVs.
They’re simply no longer buying Teslas because of Elon Musk and his fascist beliefs.
Welp, the dealership where I bought my car last year apparently screwed up the EV tax credit paperwork and the IRS is rejecting my tax return. So many dealerships fucked it up that the IRS has now made a new rule to try to fix it.
If you're trying to get a used EV tax credit in the US this year, beware. If you wait until the last day to file you may get a nasty surprise.

My wife and I were thinking of switching to an EV before all the prices start going up due to the tarrifs but the US EV market is really underwhelming.
Most of the options are either SUVs or overpriced luxury cars. I just want a reasonably priced sedan that can fit 5 people including two car seats comfortably.
