Went and visited one of my favourite trees over the weekend. There's lots of lovely lichen on show at the moment...

There's a patch of dark green moss in the bottom left, an area of raised grey and bright red lichen to the right of it, and splats of orange-yellow rubbery-looking lichen dotted around. There's a grey lichen reaching out like lobster claws in front of everything else, while just above this is a bright yellow spikily branched patch of another species of lichen. Other patches of the abovementioned species appear in between all the others

Today I found this Cladonia lichen in the woods on a large fallen log among the moss. The trunk has been there for a long time. It's mostly moss-covered, elsewhere the bark has been worn away by scarecrows or fallen to the ground. Fortunately, this area is not a logging area, no one removes dead wood. Typical Cladonia shapes look like cups or tubes, and are about five millimetres in size at most.

Macro photo of Cladonia lichen, typical shape like a tube with the extended end upwards. Or like a cup. It's grey-green in colour, with tiny beads of reddish-brown around the perimeter of the cup. The shape is about five millimetres high and its surface is like irregular velvet. Green moss grows around the lichen. The background is indistinct and green; these are also the more distant moss petals. Macro photography does not allow to focus the whole image, even what is a few millimeters away is out of focus.

Heute bin ich wieder mal draussen auf der Schafweide herum gelegen. Also... So ganz untätig war ich dabei nicht. Die Frühblüher danken die Feuchtigkeit der letzten Regengüsse, die es in der trockensten Region der CH gegeben hat.

Man sieht zwei Krokusse auf einer Wiese. Im Hintergrund, auf der rechten Seite, hat es noch mehr, aber die sind verschwommen. Es ist eine Makroaufnahme. Bei den vorderen beiden Blumen hat es noch ein Blatt von einem Baum aus dem vergangenen Herbst, das am Boden liegt.

Man sieht zwei Krokusse auf einer Wiese. Im Hintergrund hat es noch mehr, aber die sind verschwommen. Es ist eine Makroaufnahme und darum ist die Schärfeebene klein, dh. man sieht die beiden vorderen Krokusse im Fokus.

This particular crocus has mostly white petals with pale purple smudges. Der Blaue Mauerpfeffer ist eine leider nicht frostharte Pflanze des südlichen Mittelmeerraums, die sehr klein bleibt und nur millimetergroße Blüten hat. Diese sind dann aber aus der Nähe durchaus hübsch.
