Daniel Carkner🥀<p>it's about an earlier phase of his research, but the episode of Ottoman History Podcast with Ian was one of my faves:</p><p>"During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, hundreds of thousands of people from the Ottoman Empire and post-Ottoman states emigrated to the United States. Among them were musicians, singers, and artists who catered to the new diaspora communities that emerged in cities like New York and Boston."<br><a href="https://soundcloud.com/ottoman-history-podcast/american-music-of-the-ottoman-diaspora-ian-nagoski" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">soundcloud.com/ottoman-history</span><span class="invisible">-podcast/american-music-of-the-ottoman-diaspora-ian-nagoski</span></a></p><p><a href="https://historians.social/tags/MusicHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MusicHistory</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/podcast" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>podcast</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/OttomanEmpire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OttomanEmpire</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/78rpm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>78rpm</span></a></p>

Top 40 Years Ago<p>40 years ago this week, "Forever Young" by <a href="https://musician.social/tags/Alphaville" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Alphaville</span></a> entered the <a href="https://musician.social/tags/Top100" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Top100</span></a> at 95. It peaked at 93 on 30 Mar 1985, but actually climbed higher as a re-release and peaked at 65 on 24 Dec 1988. There have been several remixes and cover versions over the years, and I quite like the one by <a href="https://musician.social/tags/YouthGroup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>YouthGroup</span></a> that was featured in "The O.C.". <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNjQXmoxiQ8" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=oNjQXmoxiQ</span><span class="invisible">8</span></a> <a href="https://musician.social/tags/1980s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>1980s</span></a> <a href="https://musician.social/tags/MusicHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MusicHistory</span></a> <a href="https://musician.social/tags/MusicVideo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MusicVideo</span></a></p>
Jukebox Utopia<p>Eigentlich wollte ich aber mein Interview mit Elisabeth Schimana hier mal teilen... Schimana arbeitet als Komponistin, Performerin und Radio Künstlerin seit 1983.
