Martin Rundkvist<p>The scenic road I cycle into town is popular with youth who bring McD takeaway and throw the trash out along the roadside. I keep picking it up. But also, people on their way to the recycling center drive this way and drop large objects from thoughtlessly loaded trailers.</p><p>It's hard for me to cycle with an old floor board under one arm. So driving home from the garden centre with soil and manure today, I collected two boards and took them to <a href="https://archaeo.social/tags/recycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>recycling</span></a>.</p><p><a href="https://archaeo.social/tags/environment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>environment</span></a> <a href="https://archaeo.social/tags/cycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cycling</span></a></p>
Captain Jack Sparrow<p>Saw these hanging baskets made from old plastic bottles. Small space made into a vertical garden. VegPlotter<p>Reusing last season’s tomato grow bags? No problem! Just remove old roots &amp; flush out fertiliser salts with rainwater. Great crops to plant next? Cucumbers, melons, radishes, beans, lettuces, &amp; herbs. But skip peppers &amp; aubergines—they’re too closely related to tomatoes. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/Recycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Recycling</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/GardeningTips" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GardeningTips</span></a></p>

Emeritus Prof Christopher May<p>If any part of the green transition depends on the global recycling of plastics, then we might s well give up right now.... nearly half of all plastics are dumped in landfill, while less than 10% are recycled. Around 20% or more (including some of the 'mismanaged') are incinerated, no doubt adding more pollution to our degrading atmosphere.</p><p>We need a better solution to the one we are currently practicing!</p><p><a href="https://zirk.us/tags/GreenTransition" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GreenTransition</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/plastics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plastics</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/recycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>recycling</span></a></p>
The Conversation U.S.<p>Only 8.7% of <a href="https://newsie.social/tags/plastics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plastics</span></a> are recycled in the US. Chemistry scholars explore how pyrolysis offers a way to convert more types of plastic waste into oil, fuel gases, and char – potentially reducing pollution and demand for new plastics. <a href="https://buff.ly/4xkVpAI" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">buff.ly/4xkVpAI</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <br><a href="https://newsie.social/tags/recycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>recycling</span></a></p>

It should be the very last step in a long line of alternatives. While Reduce and Reuse are the best options, we think the missing R is Repair.<br>Here's why: <a href="https://www.ifixit.com/Right-to-Repair/Recycling" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">ifixit.com/Right-to-Repair/Rec</span><span class="invisible">ycling</span></a><br>—<br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/iFixit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>iFixit</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GlobalRecyclingDay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GlobalRecyclingDay</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/RightToRepair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RightToRepair</span></a></p>
