May I join the chorus of people who have said that #RFKJr is a mendacious sack of shit who has killed kids and continues to kill kids with his anti-vaxx lies?

He can't walk this back and act like he's a vaccine cheerleader. He's a lying propagandist for a death cult. We had *eradicated* measles in the US, and RFKJr has been critical to bringing it back.

I saw that, and thought as I have so many times lately that the #Republican party has lost all sense of appropriate optics and is simply running full speed ahead into whatever wall it's created for itself

A U.S. District Court today just granted a temporary restraining order that restores $11 billion in critical public health funding to state and local public health agencies across the country. This funding had been recently cut without notice by HHS under RFKJr.
These grants cover identifying, tracking, and addressing infectious diseases; ensuring access to immunizations; and modernizing critical public health infrastructure.
This funding was set by Congress to ensure the United States is better prepared for future public health threats like the Covid pandemic.

The US now has >600 #measles cases in 22 states, acc/to the #CDC [& who knows if that’s being accurately reported]. That includes 481 cases in #Texas alone. The country has now reported >2X the number of measles cases this year than were reported in all of 2024.

The CDC says there have been 6 measles #outbreaks so far this year.

No plan—not his *MAHA* agenda, not efficiency, nothing—can realistically explain cuts like these. Instead, the #MassFirings don’t seem to be a means to an end on the way to overhauling American #health. They are an end in themselves.

It’ll take months, if not years, to fully appreciate the effect that the cuts will have on America’s scientific enterprise.

Even before he took office, #RFKJr warned #health ofcls that they should pack their bags, & on Tues, he defended the cuts: “What we’ve been doing isn’t working,” RFKJr posted. He [says he] is focused on “realigning #HHS w/its core mission: to stop the chronic #disease epidemic & Make America Healthy Again.” But instead of improving how the federal health bureaucracy works, RFKJr is throwing his agencies into #chaos.

Update. The Dept of Health and Human Services (#HHS) can no longer fulfill requests for records under the Freedom of Information Act (#FOIA), at least not without "exponentially" longer delays and backlogs. #RFKjr — who promised "radical transparency" — fired the staffers who handled those requests. A spokesperson said the layoffs will "streamline" the department and the work "will continue".
