Tiana Cutright
After he died, weeks later, my cousin found my little notebook on our uncle's dining table, beside an unfinished jigsaw puzzle. He returned it to me. It became an Xmas gift to my mother, who was with her brother when he passed. She said it was the best regift ever. My mother died in 2016, and the regift returned to me again. It is a personal treasure now, and I have no regrets about creating it. Tell your beloveds why you love them. Tiana Cutright
Describe something you've made or seen that is meaningful to you.

🧵 In 2014, my beloved uncle was diagnosed with a terminal illness. I filled a Moleskine notebook with handwritten copies of all my best poems, from my childhood and on up to my most recent work. As afterword, I shared what his lifelong care meant to me, thanked him, said I love you, said goodbye without writing the word. Gave it to him at what we knew would be our final holiday meal together.

1/2

#ScribesAndMakers 2025-04-07

Quasi
#ScribesAndMakers 4: Handle praise well, or embarrassed?

Neither. I tend to deflect praise, but not from discomfort, more because I don't feel it's warranted. Part imposter syndrome, part feeling if I was truly that good, I'd have more readers/viewers.

At the same time, complete lack of praise tanks my productivity. If I push to get my serial out and it's crickets for a month, I feel like what's the point. My head's a mess.

Teaching under conservatives and parenting are both full time jobs already. And commitment for me tends to be an all-in.

In the past I've been in comic discussions, NaNo circles, April Fools swap groups, and more. Usually on the fringes, granted. I'm more of an observer.

Eve 😘📚
#ScribesAndMakers March 27: Were you ever discouraged by great art of someone else?

I've been playing guitar off and on my entire life basically. When I was in my teens, a guy I knew picked up a guitar and became Hendrix level good in six months. I found that a little discouraging. Later, I realized we had different motivations and different paths. I was always more interested in composing than I was in playing the most technical pieces.

It's so easy to say "don't be discouraged" but so difficult to actually take that advice. We're not doing the same things, though.
