Nonya Bidniss :CIAverified:I just tried to login to the SSA.gov through Login.gov. New procedure for <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/SSA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#SSA</a> you have to go through a multi-step identity verification and it requires your phone and taking pictures of your state driver's license or state non-driver ID, no other type of government ID is allowed so if you don't have one of those, you don't get into your SSA account. The last time Login.gov made me verify myself was in August. For some reason this time the browser on my phone (ffx) would not take a picture. I checked the app permissions and rebooted the phone. Still would not take a picture so I really wonder if there's something about the Login.gov page itself that is malfunctioning. The other option is to enter all your details and then take your ID to a post office along with a barcode that they issue you (which I had to take a picture of off the f*ing computer screen). Imagine someone who is 80 years old trying to fuck with this shit. Just imagine it. DouglasPS: everyone should be complaining to their elected representatives about how hard it is to access the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SocialSecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#SocialSecurity</a> website. I get that we need security but less tech savvy people absolutely will not be able to use the website because they won't be able to get past the account creation and login requirements.And also you might want to tell your representatives how important you think social security is and if you think it should be protected.

And you should help them get copies if you're able and if they're willing to trust you to help them. Or send them to the local public library for help. If it's a decent <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/PublicLibrary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#PublicLibrary</a> then the staff might have the time and skills to help them. A local <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SeniorCenter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#SeniorCenter</a> might also be able to help.Good luck out there and stay frosty.

DouglasHopefully they all can find young people near them who can help them do this. There's no way that I can fly all over the country helping them all out. I understand the great importance of having strong security but probably half the country or more will not be able to get into their <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/socialSecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#socialSecurity</a> accounts via the Internet. In theory you can request one of these documents via the mail and the other via the telephone system but you might be waiting a long time to get that document.

DouglasOn the weekly video call with my US-based elderly family members I mentioned to them that they all should have copies of their <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SocialSecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#SocialSecurity</a> statements and benefits verification letters saved and printed out. They all were shocked by this. And these are people who are following the news and are concerned about what's happening. None of them had used the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SSA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#SSA</a> website before. I put together a little guide for them which amounts to 25 steps (assuming they already have a login dot gov account).
