electronics fedi i need your help.

so i have these headphones that have been broken for years now and want to see if i can repair them. the issue as far as i've been able to tell is these solder joints (pictured) are broken and not properly connecting.

how hard would it be for someone who has never even breathed in the same room as a soldering iron to go about this? can i just buy the cheapest junk soldering iron and solder online and make it work? what do i need to know before attempting this?

(before you pledge allegiance to your favorite solder brand or send amazon US links my way let me clarify i am reasonably confident none of the brand names you recommend will either be available to buy over here or as cheap as you expect)

Alte Stereoanlagen - super Geräte! Zu schade diese zu ersetzen. Bei diesem Gerät funktioniert die Kassette nicht mehr. Der Antriebsriemen lässt sich zum Glück einfach tauschen.

Old stereo systems - great devices! Too bad to replace them. The cassette no longer works on this appliance. Fortunately, the drive belt is easy to replace.

For example, the cost to make an #iPhone 16 Pro could rise by $300. That increase alone is more than three times the current cost of an iPhone Battery Fix Kit. Even as the costs of parts like batteries rise, #repair will still be the smart choice.

Yep, the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will probably still drift because Nintendo isn't using Hall effect sensors. So, if you were thinking about upgrading, it might make more sense to swap out the joysticks in your current Joy-Cons. It's easier than you might think—and a lot more affordable.

Williams' Pinball 2000 platform (1998-1999) is a curious beast. Unlike virtually anything else, its playfield is intended to be easily separated from the cabinet. The original design idea was that you could have a spare playfield, which you repair and clean at the privacy of your company's service depot, then load the clean playfields into a van and swap them out on location. I recall the sales pitch was that you can completely replace the playfield under 5 minutes.

The cabinets were supposed to have generic art, so you could not just swap the playfield for a similar one, you could put another game's playfield in and then just reflash the software and change the backglass to reflect the game change. This'd save from moving the cabinets around needlessly.

Here's how it looks when the playfield is put back into the game, it was out for repairs when the lock diverter's rivets failed. It also got cleaned.

This #WITDay, we're celebrating Martine Postma. She's the activist and former journalist who started the Repair Café movement.

“I wanted to do more than just write about it,” Postma says. “More and more people don’t feel good about our throw-away society and are ready for change. [They] don’t throw away because they want to, but because they don’t know what else to do.”

:blobcat: Got a #PS4 Slim that someone wanted to toss. Said I'll take it to play around with. Plugged it in and pressed the power button. It beeped and the power button turned blue for a second then turned off. If you press the power button again it does nothing. Removing the power cord for a few seconds, plugging it back and then pressing the power button again does the same.

:blobcattea: Anyone out there know what the problem could be? #help #repair #console

Ok, so the Razer mouse I needed is now messing up more. I messed it up a bit in the process of swapping out the scroll wheel encoder (too much heat because the old one was really stubborn about not coming out) and it's starting to act up pretty badly. This sucks because it was the only mouse that seemed to fit my hands quite right.

But now there is something strange. I dug out my old Roccat and the mouse wheel is acting up on it too. The same exact issue almost as soon as I plugged it in. It never did that before...

Thing is, replacing the wheel encoder on the Razer did solve the problem for it. That implies it was hardware on the Razer. So... Is this just a weird coincidence? The Roccat isn't even as used...

Could it be software somehow?

The guide for the 3DS Circle Pad Replacement that I followed from the iFixit website was a big help especially when it warned me where I need to pay more attention otherwise I could easily damage parts like the little ribbon cables and more importantly where I can encounter glue. 🙂

The only thing that I wasn't warned about is the little transparent plastic piece underneath the the right hinge that use to diffuse the little red LED's light, that only turns on when the battery is in a very low level of charge. But there's other guides on their website in one of them they advise to pull that plastic piece before it will inadvertently fell off and will be hard to find after it.

📣 If any of you see this toot and planing to disassemble your original 3DS model make sure to pull that little transparent plastic and put it in a small box or in any container before loosing it ‼️ ‼️

I need a #ProBono #attorney to sue #Amazon for #damages. They sold me a #faucet from a #ThirdPartySeller and #guaranteed that these were the right #parts with all the right #adapters and that everything would fit. But nothing fit, and now there's #WaterDamage in my #bathroom, with water pouring down my #diningroom #ceiling. This is going to cost a lot to #repair, and I need to sue #Amazon for at least #2MillionDollars.

#Serious #inquiry, #please #help.
