@bbcnewsfeed I’m not a lawyer, but it sounds like they don’t want to break up the collusive cartel, but rather to join it. This makes sense from a players union type angle. Like things such as more consistency of the tennis balls across events is more anti-competitive really, but makes perfect sense for the players. I’ll be interested to see how they get concessions on representation through this process, since that seems like the real goal. I also wonder what happens when people like Novak retire and they move on to the other side of the sport. Tennis does have a lot of former players run events, federations and indeed the ATP. Listened to the Tennis Podcast interview with Matt Futterman, which was also enlightening on this. #Tennis

@MagentaRocks @tennis unfortunately this is paywalled. I’ll listen to the tennis podcast about this tonight. One thing seems clear from following this so far though is that the top players involved with the PTPA are poor communicators about the issues. I’m not sure how they are trying to build support among the players, but their public communication has been vague. If you read/hear quotes from Pospisil, Novak or Kyrgios it’s not clear how/what they actually are asking for. Wish I could read the article because I’m sure Futterman and company explain it much more clearly.

@atptour @tennis Honestly this was an umpiring travesty and another really black mark on Draper’s sportsmanship. Carlos should not have conceded the point at 15 all. I just rewatched the replay of that point twice and Layanni is clearly saying stop twice as soon as Draper hits Carlos’s drop shot. No question that is a hinderance and the point should be replayed. The fact that Draper was acting outraged that he didn’t win the point was pathetic. This builds a record of him acting poorly in situations like this. He was completely in the right about the original call being wrong, but took it too far. Ultimately, it was Leyanni’s double error in this sequence, but not sporting of Draper who had to know the situation and what he was asking was actually inappropriate.
