Thanks to a follower suggestion, I've added a visualization showing the mean #Arctic sea ice extent for each summer season (June-September). This can be a way of tracking whether each region is becoming seasonally ice-free.

On this day in 1999: Nunavut ("Our Land" in Inuktitut) was officially established as Canada's newest territory.
This historic achievement gave the Inuit people greater self-governance over their traditional #Arctic lands and represented a milestone for Indigenous rights in #NorthAmerica.

A recent @CNN article by Laura Paddison features Prof. Dirk Notz from #CLICCS. Arctic temperatures are soaring, up to 20°C above normal, leading to the lowest February sea ice levels recorded. “We can wipe out entire landscapes.”

Sea ice concentration trends in March are only confined to the outer edges of the #Arctic Ocean, such as the Barents-Kara Seas and Sea of Okhotsk.
