A boom brake using a good, old-fashioned, climbing figure 8 Descender. So thats £10-£15 versus £250 odd for that other one.
Going to try this out and incorporate some other climbing rigging tricks too if needed. I reckon some sort of "friction brake" instead of a "lock" might be worth looking into to help protect the rig. Unintended Gybe prevention methods starting with a climbing fig 8 and a few slings... Who knew?

Worked on our new-to-us boat last night. We cleaned, greased and reassembled the winches, put a new coat of varnish on a wood piece that partially covers the bottom half of the cabin door, and removed the teak handholds. We got one of the handholds sanded, and we have caulk to remove from the bottom of the second before we can sand.

Was mainly looking for new solar panel, as ours was stolen.. why is it so difficult to find a replacement that fits? 😭
But found at least a new jacket, so I've got that going for me, which is nice
