A person sees an interesting fact on her phone. She tells her friend, "This newly-discovered insect can devour up to a square inch of grass per day." Her friend says, "Oh neat." Later he tells another friend, "... it eats a square inch, or 6 cm^2 of grass per day..." She tells her friend, "... a 6-centimetre (2 1/2 inch) square of grass, or 36 cm^2..." and things escalate from there, "... a 36 centimetre square, or over a square foot..." "... a square foot, or 900 cm^2..." "... a 900 cm (30 foot) square..." "... a 30 foot square of grass (900 square feet)..." "... 900 foot square, or almost 20 acres..." "... 20 acres (8 hectares) or 80,000 square metres..." "... an 80,000 metre (80 km) square..." "...a square 80 km wide, or roughtly 2,500 square miles..." "... A 2,500-mile squer or twice the land area of Australia, per day..." Finally, it ends up with someone says, "Did you hear about this insect that defoliates the entire land are of Australia twice a day?" His colleagues say, "Gosh."
