Netanyahu, for example, partially sacrificed Israel's most sacred historical memory. In his remarks alongside Orbán, he did mention the Holocaust, but constructed an imagined narrative about a shared destiny between Hungarians and Jews. Additionally, Netanyahu avoided mentioning the Holocaust of Hungarian Jews and the responsibility of Miklós Horthy's regime, Hungary's ruler at the time, for the systematic extermination of more than 400,000 Jews.</p><p>[…] Instead, Netanyahu emphasized the suffering of Poles under the occupation that followed World War II. But here too, he avoided mentioning the occupiers - the Soviet Union. This could have offended another conservative ally - Vladimir Putin. Netanyahu and Orbán also preferred not to allow the many journalists in the hall to ask questions, which might have embarrassed each of them individually and both of them together. The unity of the global right sometimes requires walking on eggshells.</p><p>Hebrew <a href="https://www.haaretz.co.il/news/politics/2025-04-04/ty-article/.premium/00000195-fc7b-df89-a39f-fc7b1e720000" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">haaretz.co.il/news/politics/20</span><span class="invisible">25-04-04/ty-article/.premium/00000195-fc7b-df89-a39f-fc7b1e720000</span></a> or <a href="https://archive.is/UYoCh" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">archive.is/UYoCh</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/israel" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>israel</span></a></span> <br><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/HistoricalRevisionism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HistoricalRevisionism</span></a> <br><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/HolocaustMemory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HolocaustMemory</span></a></p>
MikeDunnAuthor<p>Today In Labor History April 3, 1950: Composer Kurt Weill died. Weill’s most famous song was Mack the Knife ("Die Moritat von Mackie Messer"), which became a schlock classic after Bobby Darin’s rendition. However, Weill wrote the song as part of Bertolt Brecht’s “Three Penny Opera,” which was a socialist critique of the capitalist world. Weill was persecuted by the Nazis for his political views and his Jewish heritage. He fled to America, with his wife, singer Lotte Lenya. Some of Weill’s other well-known songs include: Alabama Song (covered by the Doors), Pirate Jenny (covered by Nina Simone), Mack the Knife (also covered by Louis Armstrong), Der Kleine des Lieben Gottes (covered by John Zorn).</p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6orDcL0zt34" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=6orDcL0zt3</span><span class="invisible">4</span></a></p><p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/workingClass" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>workingClass</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LaborHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaborHistory</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/nazis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nazis</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/antisemitism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>antisemitism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/holocaust" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>holocaust</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/KurtWeill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KurtWeill</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LotteLenya" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LotteLenya</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/BertoltBrecht" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BertoltBrecht</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/socialism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>socialism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/communism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>communism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/NinaSimone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NinaSimone</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LouisArmstrong" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LouisArmstrong</span></a></p>

Quoting Hanin Majadli: Eva Illouz was a mouthpiece for right-wing propaganda, and in response received a slap

Majadli discusses how Israel's Education Minister Yoav Kish disqualified Professor Eva Illouz from receiving the Israel Prize due to what he called her "anti-Israeli ideology." The reason cited was her 2021 participation in a petition to the International Criminal Court in The Hague requesting an investigation into whether Israel committed war crimes in the West Bank.

In response to this disqualification, Illouz stated to Haaretz: "During the last 18 months, I dedicated my energy to writing for the international press with the aspiration to defend Israel. In the most prestigious newspapers in Spain, France, and Germany, I never stopped clarifying that Hamas is a terrorist organization, that Israel had the right to respond to a ground invasion of its territory, that anti-Zionism is an expression of antisemitism, and that the accusations of genocide against it are nothing but a continuation of antisemitic discourse."

Majadli criticizes Illouz for having been a "loyal mouthpiece for the most right-wing Israeli propaganda" for a year and a half, only to be rejected by the state she defended. Majadli argues that there is little difference between Illouz's response to the war and that of any standard Zionist leftist in Israel.

She says that Illouz and other Zionist intellectuals who identify as leftists were focusing on "deciphering esoteric shades of antisemitism in the global left" while diverting attention from the violence being carried out in Gaza. She suggests that Illouz could have gained more respect by refusing any prize from a state that killed tens of thousands civilians in Gaza.

Majadli wonders when will the academic community understand that the "Israel Prize" is not a badge of honor but a mark of disgrace, and characterizes Illouz as symbolizing "the ongoing failure of the Zionist left to understand the State of Israel as it truly is, and not as they would like it to be."

Roet also discusses various potential options for controlling Gaza after #Hamas. More importantly, like the Middle East Eye reported, he mentions his close relationship with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker (ÖVP), claiming the Israeli embassy has a privileged position and direct communication with him.

The #ÖVP has been criticized for governing in some states alongside the Freedom Party (#FPÖ) following an increase in anti-Semitic incidents (the FPÖ was founded in 1956 by Anton Reinthaller, a former Nazi SS officer).

The Jewish Anti-Zionist Initiative Austria (#JAIÖ) published the video, noting it was recorded two days after Israel broke a ceasefire on March 18, resulting in over 700 deaths. juedisch-antizionistisch.at/en

The increasingly aggressive use of “antisemitism” as a political instrument was never about Jewish safety. It has always been about power: consolidating a political order that merges religion, nationalism and authoritarianism under the veneer of minority protection.

The threat is immediate and ongoing. Already, whole sectors of society – educators, students, artists, political activists and immigrants – are paying the price.

The redefinition of #antisemitism isn’t simply a policy shift – it’s part of a deeper transformation of American democracy, restricting free speech, shaping civil rights protections and even influencing the classification of hate crimes in state criminal codes.

Trump’s January 2025 executive order to "combat antisemitism” marks a dangerous escalation in this trend. Columbia has consented in an extraordinary surrender of its academic freedom.

"But despite what some will have you believe, two things are clear: first, this campaign does not protect Jews – it endangers them; and second, this redefinition plays into a larger Christian nationalist project. …

Smearing progressive Jews as 'not real Jews' has ramifications that extend far beyond the Jewish community, serving a conservative Christian strategy to exploit religious liberties for the sake of suppressing progressive values."

"What appears, at first glance, to be a technical change in terminology has become a powerful instrument for political control, solidifying executive power to enforce a narrow, state-sanctioned definition of Judaism. In the name of combating antisemitism, this effort threatens to reshape American public life – and with it, the pillars of American liberalism."

"Redefining antisemitism in the law was never about Jewish safety. It is about consolidating authoritarian power under the veneer of minority protection. ...

Something unprecedented – and deeply unsettling – is unfolding: under the guise of a legal redefinition of antisemitism, the basic architecture of American public life is being radically transformed."

"People demonstrate against Israel’s genocidal atrocities? That’s antisemitism — those protesters need to be silenced, arrested, and deported. People object to blatant Zionist influence in their governments? Antisemitic conspiracy theories; we need more hate speech laws and internet censorship. Palestinians take up armed resistance against their oppressors? Israel is the victim of unprovoked attacks from Jew-hating Arabs.

Even real anti-Jewish prejudice benefits the Zionists, because it strengthens the narrative about an urgent crisis of antisemitism which must be crushed by any amount of force necessary, as well as the narrative that Jews need a nation of their own where they can feel safe. So Israel can openly mass murder children while Israeli officials make overt statements of genocidal intent, and if someone blames all Jews for this because they see a state committing atrocities under the banner of the Star of David while claiming to represent all Jews, it only benefits Israel and its supporters.

(As an aside, this is why it’s so important not to blame this on “the Jews”. It’s not just that it’s inaccurate — not all Jews are Zionists, the majority of Zionists are non-Jews, and some of the most effective anti-Zionists in the world happen to be Jewish — it’s that you’re doing exactly what the Zionists and the empire propagandists want you to do. You’re doing their job for them. Don’t be a pro bono Israel propagandist. Make them work for that shit.)"
