I'm reposting everything from my old Instagram, to keep my archive and have a record of my work's development. I'm adding commentary below the original text.

This is from 6 January 2019
I'm planning on making a series of this Amanita muscaria. It's going to be slightly different, with another glass dome. Can't find the same one currently. But I think it should be good, no matter what glass dome protects it.
This one became a night light for twins!

There was a giveaway in my archive on Instagram between this and the previous post - but I decided against posting that one here too. It doesn't do much for my archive and it would probably confuse the heck out of anyone here. So I skipped that post and went to the next one.

It does make me wonder though - are giveaways appreciated here too?

Checking in on the bog that I replanted on the 16th with a digital magnifier to see how it is settling in. Seems like it's doing okay (most sundew traps are progressing except for a couple and the Venus Flytrap seeds seem to have set). Some moss has burnt tips like it did in the old container and not sure if it's the lighting, dry conditions or something else yet.

Post of the actual planting at layer8.space/@chillicampari/11

Today on #Mosstodon we have "goblin gold" moss (Schistostega) - moss that appears to glow a green-gold colour!

It's evolved to live in very dark environments, and part of that adaption is that it's got cells that efficiently capture light, with the only the less useful green-gold wavelengths reflected back.

This is significant because these light absorbing cells are spherical, and much like the glass beads used in road signs or high-vis jackets, they're retroreflective, concentrating light and bouncing it back towards the source; this gives it a really unusual effect where the moss can 'glow' brightly or be almost indistinguishable from its surroundings depending on the angle of your head and the positioning of light sources
