I am less impressed by the length of Booker's speech (impressive though it was) than that he spent the entire time talking about substantive issues, from the heart, saying things that needed to be said, clearly outlining what's at stake in allowing the country to slide into authoritarianism.

Go Senator Booker go! So proud of him. Will be especially cool if he is able to go longer than 24 hrs and 18 minutes that's the record held by former Senator Strom Thurmond (SC) who held the Senate floor to try to block the passing the Civil Rights Act of 1957 according to this AP article. apnews.com/article/cory-booker

Booker took to the Senate floor Monday evening and was still speaking Tuesday morning, saying he'd remain there as long as he was “physically able.” Booker's staff says he was still on the floor more than 12 hours later. Booker railed against cuts to Social Security offices and spoke to concerns that broader cuts to the social safety net could be coming, though Republican lawmakers say the program won’t be touched. Booker is serving his second term. Booker was an unsuccessful presidential candidate in 2020.

Disagreeing with the “just a stunt” & “wasted effort” sentiments. Tens of thousands are tuned in on various platforms to support and embolden our representatives to fight—harder, smarter, faster—for us. In return, we are gaining more tools, i.e., knowledge/power/encouragement with which to equip ourselves in our efforts to energize others to become better informed in hopes that they, too, will stand up and meet this moment with courage.
