The #legal #rights people have if #ICE stops them

A sense of anxiety is gripping noncitizen residents of the #UnitedStates.

The 2nd #Trump admin kicked off w/a shock-&-awe effort aimed at arresting & deporting many immigrants without legal status. But stories are now emerging of both longtime legal permanent residents & visa holders being detained by ICE & other #immigration *officers*.

Judge Brinkema, an appointee of President Bill Clinton, found the evidence in the case sorely lacking, acc/to a lawyer for the couple, Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg. “She said if [ofcls] had come to her chambers seeking an arrest warrant she would have thrown them out,” he said. The judge ordered the couple immediately released so they could walk out of the courtroom, attys said.

A federal judge has ordered the immediate release of a Washington-area #Venezuelan couple who contend they’ve been unfairly swept up in #Trump’s crackdown on Venezuela-based gang #TdA.

Luddis Sanchez Garcia, 33, & Julio Sanchez Puentes, 27, walked out of the federal courthouse in Alexandria, Virginia, Friday morning surrounded by supporters after US District Judge Leonie Brinkema declared there was no legal basis for their #detention.

More than 10,000 Japanese Americans were incarcerated at Manzanar Relocation Center, Calif., during World War II. Playing and watching baseball was one of the ways these Americans tried to retain some sense of normalcy. Dan Kwong is a longtime volunteer at Manzanar, which became a national historic site in 1992 — his late mother, Momo Nagano, was incarcerated there as a teenager. Here's the story of how he built a baseball field at the site in honor of Momo, who wrote extensively about her time at the camp in order that future generations would never forget this piece of history.

Ya see now, in order for this BS to be true, the individuals would have needed to go through #DueProcess for the ofcls to make the determination:

“That order is forcing the United States to harbor individuals whom national-security officials have identified as members of a foreign terrorist organization bent upon grievously harming Americans.“

The #DOJ in a filing asked #SCOTUS to lift DC-based US District Judge James #Boasberg's March 15 order calling for a temporary halt of the summary removals of the #Venezuelans while a legal challenge to #Trump’s invocation of the #AlienEnemiesAct to justify the #deportations plays out. The 18th century #law historically has been used only in wartime [& expressly states the #US must be at #war w/a foreign #nation for its use].

She visits the prison armory & shakes her head approvingly while inspecting the rifles. Then she pauses in front of a cage where #HumanBeings have been posed to her liking so that she can speak to the cameras in front of a powerful visual. She is sending a message on behalf of her country.

A high-ranking American ofcl visits a prison on foreign soil which we are using to warehouse *enemies* of her regime. She appears in a fitted long-sleeve tee & active-wear slacks. There is a ballcap on her head & a pound of makeup smeared across her plasticized face. A gold Rolex Daytona—worth more than some of these men will make in their entire lives—sits proudly on her dainty wrist. Every piece of this visual is carefully engineered.

This Is the Land of Wolves Now

Masked agents snatching people off the street. Govt ofcls using caged prisoners for propaganda videos. We are the villains.

“They have clearly been posed by the jailers, forced to hold position so that they can be useful props for the American woman so that she can manufacture #propaganda for her regime.

“We have seen this kind of thing before. Just not from America.”

On Wednesday afternoon, Homeland Security #KristiNoem [dog killer] was on her way to visit the Terrorism Confinement Center #CECOT in #ElSalvador. She & other officials have touted the #deportations as a feat of #Trump’s agenda to keep Americans safe from violent criminals. Before her arrival she said on her X account she was going to see firsthand “where the worst-of-the-worst criminals are housed.”

Back in the courtroom At attorney Prada’s request the judge froze Reyes Mota’s #asylum case for the time being. That way, he could eventually take it up again. That is, if he is ever able to return to the #UnitedStates.

“We can agree that there was no removal order from this court or another court,” the judge said, noting that there was very little he could do.

From detention, Reyes Mota asked his loved ones about whether Sacha was eating enough & how his son was doing in school. But they lost contact w/him on the day before the #deportation flights to #ElSalvador, on March 15.

A week later, his name popped up on a list of #Venezuelans who were being held at the Central American mega prison. “He doesn’t deserve this injustice,” said a family member who requested to remain anonymous out of fear….

On Feb 4, Reyes Mota, who was living in Tampa, went to the ICE office in the city for a required check-in. There, agents informed him that he was being placed in custody under suspicion of being associated w/the Tren de Aragua gang….
