The termination emails were riddled w/mistakes — w/employees’ names, the month of April & even the institute’s title misspelled in places — a telling sign of the rushed & haphazard nature of the operation….

By Saturday morning, the terminated #USIP headquarters staff were already discussing filing a class-action lawsuit & were debating whether to sign their termination documents.

In the latest action, employees were instructed to sign a 4-pg letter ordering them to return all #USIP property while agreeing to forgo all future claims against the institute. It ordered them not to disclose any terms of the agreement in exchange for 1 month of #HealthInsurance & a monthly stipend paid for an unspecified period. Those who refuse to sign, the letter said, will lose all #benefits as of Monday.

The United States Court of Appeals for DC has cleared the way for #Trump to fire members of the National #Labor Relations Board #NLRB & the Merit Systems Protection Board #MSPB, essentially granting Trump authority over formerly "independent" parts of the executive branch.

Judge Millet dissented saying the decision overturned #SCOTUS precedent & disabled the boards from functioning while the case proceeds.

The pieces the local masons produce and the work remaining at Noguchi's atelier aren't vastly different—he was clearly working within an established tradition, though taking its craft and materials in different directions. But all of it, his and his neighbors' work, is beautiful in its own way and a credit to the labor that produces it

Shedd is the official who made waves for announcing that DOGE would be implementing an “AI-first strategy” across the government as it orchestrated the firing of tens of thousands of federal workers. Now he’s in charge of the US labor department’s technology. “It’s probably illegal and it’s definitely terrible for both organizations,” a federal employee who works at one of them tells me. The move has alarming implications. For one thing, it appears to violate federal law dictating the number of positions an official can hold. More concerningly, it puts Shedd in a position to influence how the government administers federal labor law—laws enshrined to protect workers from wage theft, discrimination and wrongful termination—at a time when his agency is eliminating jobs en masse.
