Re: The #Ghibli #AIArt craze:

As someone who mucks about in AI Art as a real hobby, stealing someone’s look so blatantly as #openAI has, though technically impressive, is a mockery of not just art in general (taken to the nth degree), but the hobby of AI art as well.

You don’t, and won’t, achieve the nuance the original art intends to portray, and cheap imitation of a style is just lazy as fuck. The hobby is about stretching the limits, not grand theft.

Miyazaki is pissed, and should be.

You can hardly find a studio the works of which are so thoughtful, kind, and intentional as Studio Ghibli. To stripmine that for its aesthetics, to take a piece of cardboard and paint it like food and say "See, doesn't this taste just as good?" is more than missing the point, it's barbaric, dystopian. It's an insult to life itself. #OpenAI

OpenAI not only doesn't give a hoot about copyright laws, but it's actively violating them on the false premise that AI companies are exempt.
