Heads up. Don't forget that if you care for a loved one, or someone you live with, and get paid through a Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services waiver program for personal care and supportive home care, make sure you or your accountant check to see if that is tax free income via IRS Notice 2014-7.

Many people treat this as self-employment income and pay thousands in taxes that they don't have to pay.

DOGE hasn't rescinded that rule yet.

…Sens Murkowski & Collins joined Democrats last week to back a bipartisan amendment led by Sen Hawley that would have eliminated the #Medicaid cuts from the budget. Their effort failed after GOP leaders labored to ensure its defeat. A broader amendment *vowing* to *protect* Medicaid & #Medicare passed [meaningless platitudes].

…it will be nearly impossible for #Republicans to get to $1.5T in cuts w/o touching #Medicaid. Though #MikeJohnson suggested they would consider imposing work requirements & rooting out *waste, fraud & abuse*, those changes will not be enough to reach their target.

The conundrum #Senate #GOP leaders have been facing broke into the open last week when they pushed through a compromise #budget plan that included elements of one the #House passed in Feb that asks…Medicaid to find $880B in cuts.

The problem for #Republicans is that it is increasingly clear that some #GOP senators simply do not have the appetite for the kinds of deep cuts that their counterparts in the House are agitating for. In recent days they have expressed concerns about repealing the entirety of President Joe #Biden’s #InflationReductionAct & restricting access to #FoodStamps.

But no issue has drawn quite so much resistance as the prospect of cuts to #Medicaid.

The right went nuts when First Lady Obama encouraged eating salad.

It should be alarming that they may be wanting to limit access to health care, or tinker with Medicare or Medicaid eligibility, based on personal behavior.

“The Constitution doesn't say anything about health, much less doughnuts and cigarettes,” he said. “People should bear the cost of their own unhealthy decisions, not just because it's wrong to force other people to bear those costs, but because then they're less likely to make unhealthy decisions.”

Trump and RFKjr don't understand two things about going after people on SNAP food stamps, Medicare or Medicaid who smoke, drink sodas, eat Little Debbie's, junk food, etc...

1st, the business conglomerates that own all these brands, sell all this stuff, and profit, have prevented those with power to make the changes from happening because it will wreck their incomes and sales

2nd, their base, esp the south who are on those programs, and it is a lot, would rebel. #USPol #Health #Medicare #Medicaid

It's not a leap to go after other "unhealthy" or risky personal behaviors. Who comes up with the list of what is an unhealthy behavior?

Proposed Federal Budget Spells Problems For Medicaid, Home-Based Care Industry, Ohio passed legislation, signed by DeWine, that cuts certain Medicaid benefits once Federal funds are decreased without further action needed. Three million Ohioans are enrolled in Medicaid, including pregnant mothers, children, seniors, and the disabled. Medicaid funds more than half the births in Ohio.

US Senate Republicans released text for a budget resolution Thursday that, if enacted, could substantially alter the home-based care industry.

The budget framework directs the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, the committee with jurisdiction over Medicaid, to slash the deficit by at least $880 billion between 2025 and 2034, prompting concerns from home-based care providers. The $880 billion reduction may not be possible without cutting Medicaid spending.
