Director of National #Intelligence #TulsiGabbard, #FBI Director #KashPatel & #CIA Director #JohnRatcliffe are testifying before the #House Intelligence Cmte again Wed amid fallout over senior #Trump national officials sharing messages about a #military strike over an unsecured group chat w/ #TheAtlantic’s #JeffreyGoldberg.

#Gabbard addressed the #Signal fiasco in opening remarks, referring to #Waltz’s previous comments & noting that he has “taken full responsibility.”

As a general rule, we do not publish info about #military ops if that info could possibly jeopardize lives of #US personnel. That is why we chose to characterize the nature of the info being shared, not specific details about attacks.

The stmnts by #Hegseth, #Gabbard, #Ratcliffe, & #Trump—combined w/the assertions made by numerous admin ofcls that we are lying about the content of the #Signal texts—have led us to believe that people should see the texts in order to reach their own conclusions.

The Israeli #military is committing #genocide against #Palestinians at the fastest rate since October 2023. Since the Israeli government violated the #ceasefire nearly a week ago, the Israeli military has killed nearly 700 Palestinians, including at least 400 #women and #children.

#EdDavey, Ldr of the #UK’s Liberal Democrats:

#JDVance & his mates clearly aren't fit to run a group chat, let alone the world's strongest #military force. It has to make our #security services nervous about the #intelligence we're sharing with them.”

#Trump's #WhiteHouse can't be trusted. Their reckless approach to security means it's only a matter of time before British intelligence is leaked.

“The Govt must urgently review our intelligence-sharing arrangements with the US.”

Asked if #NationalSecurity Adviser #MikeWaltz owed an apology, #Trump said, “I don’t think he should apologize. I think he’s doing his best.”

Trump added that he thinks “we won’t be using it very much,” referring to the #Signal app.

#Waltz said the team is looking into “how in the heck” a journalist ended up in a group text chain on the Signal app where top ofcls were discussing plans for #military strikes against #Iran-backed #Houthi rebels in #Yemen.

…At least as far back as 2023 a #DoD memo, also seen by NPR, prohibited use of mobile apps for even "controlled unclassified information," which is many degrees less important than information about on-going #military operations.

There's…no precedent for the heads of #Defense, #State, #Intelligence & #NationalSecurity to be sharing such sensitive military intelligence in a forum that was known to be unsecured.

@CanvasesByPeter

This is the most outrageous breach of #nationalsecurity that I can ever remember. The #FiveEyes #intelligence group should investigate whether the US maintains sufficient security over their collective intelligence data.

And if senior #US cabinet officials “loathe” #Europe and want Europe to pay them for unilateral #military actions that benefit global trade, the US regime are #mafia. The US has created a protection racket.

"Where were the calls for a special prosecutor? Where were the calls for resignations? Where were the calls for impeachments? If Democrats can’t muster the energy to be outraged about this — the world’s easiest outrage! — how are they possible up to this political moment? Every Dem should be hanging this albatross about the Trump administration and forcing every GOP member of Congress to defend or condemn this clown show of amateurs." #OPSEC #security #intelligence #military #USPol #incompetence doomsdayscenario.co/p/six-shor

"I will not quote from this update, or from certain other subsequent texts. The #information contained in them, if they had been read by an adversary of the #UnitedStates, could conceivably have been used to harm American #military and #intelligence personnel... the #Hegseth post contained operational details of forthcoming strikes on #Yemen, including information about targets, weapons the US would be deploying, and attack sequencing."

The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans

#US national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming #military strikes in #Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.

"I had very strong doubts that this text group was real, because I could not believe that the #NationalSecurity leadership of the #UnitedStates would communicate on #Signal about imminent #war plans."

"From layoffs at the Department of Veterans Affairs to a Pentagon purge of archives that documented diversity in the military, veterans have been acutely affected by Trump’s actions. And with the Republican president determined to continue slashing the federal government, the burden will only grow on veterans, who make up roughly 30% of the federal workforce and often tap government benefits they earned with their military service."

A reporter was added to a White House principals committee Signal group. No, that shouldn't happen, and government entities discussing classified information shouldn't be operating this way. Obviously.

"I have never seen a breach quite like this. It is not uncommon for national-security officials to communicate on Signal. But the app is used primarily for meeting planning and other logistical matters—not for detailed and highly confidential discussions of a pending military action. And, of course, I’ve never heard of an instance in which a journalist has been invited to such a discussion.

Conceivably, Waltz, by coordinating a national-security-related action over Signal, may have violated several provisions of the Espionage Act, which governs the handling of “national defense” information, according to several national-security lawyers interviewed by my colleague Shane Harris for this story."

The most bizarre part is Pete Hegseth texting "I will do all we can to enforce 100% OPSEC” 🤡 🤡 🤡

#Musk Is Positioned to Profit Off Billions in New Government Contracts

Within the #Trump admin’s #Defense Dept, #ElonMusk’s #SpaceX rocketry is being trumpeted as the nifty new way the #Pentagon could move #military cargo rapidly around the globe.

In the #Commerce Dept, SpaceX’s #Starlink satellite internet service will now be fully eligible for the federal govt’s $42B rural #broadband push, after being largely shut out during the #Biden era.
