This patch allows you to run the old Unreal Tournament (1999) on Apple Silicon. I got UT running with it in a few minutes on my M1 MacBook Air and it plays fantastically. Plus it can connect you to still active multiplayer servers.

Sitting at my #Windows PC, I've been thinking about what my kid asked me recently - if I had #Apple's Messages, Notes and Reminders all perfectly integrated into individual client apps on Windows, would I still want to use the #Mac? I find myself right now wanting to send a couple of text messages to friends and not being able to without physically typing them on the phone. The Messages app is SO convenient. Do I buy a cheap #Macbook JUST for that functionality in this room?! HMM. 🤔

I have an old #mac mini in the office, and would like set up a persistent reverse tunnel so I can always SSH in from home.

Running the ssh command manually isn't a problem, but how do I turn this into a persistent service on #macos so it restarts when the connection drops for whatever reason? Anything in #homebrew ? (The Mac in question is on #mojave 14.7 IIRC, if that helps.)

I update my #Arch machine regularly, including kernel upgrades, and it goes on happily in the background. l never have to power cycle unless I need to boot into Windows. So why does upgrading this #Mac involve sitting looking at a black screen and a progress bar for fifteen minutes and a restart at the end?

#blind #mac #voiceOver users, I'm working on a #stream idea to essentially set up a mac from scratch for efficiency/productivity for a blind power user and am gathering tricks, tools and techniques to include in said stream. I know about the obvious like VOCR, Hammerspoon, launchers like raycast/alfred, specialized apps like Drafts/Logic/Vmware Fusion/BBEdit/VS Code, even more specialized stuff like RCMD, Vollama and Shortcat, maybe some Rogue Amoeba stuff. I will also mention VoiceOver features like hotspots, item chooser, fastSearch and activities. Is there anything major I am missing? @FreakyFwoof @pitermach

#apple #systemsteuerung

Today on AppAddict - Swinsian Music App - The Answer to Feature Bloat - Swinsian is an app for playing music that ticks every box in what a Mac based music player for local libraries sgould be. I can think of no other app that exemplifies bloat like Apple's Music app, a product desgned not for ease of use, but for maximization of revenue.... - appaddict.app/post/swinsian-mu - #Mac #macOS #Apple #AppAddict

I like how Apple needs to harass me into upgrading macOS now. I was a super fan, like I used to order the OS X upgrade disk and then carefully keep It after I was done. I pirated the OS X beta back in the day. I used to buy @siracusa OS X reviews on Kindle so I could really sit back and absorb every detail.

Now I dread MacOS upgrades so much I will wait until they have dropped my current OS from security updates before I hit the big red button. Every time I seem to pick up some new strange behavior and lose something that used to work. Somehow we even broke Preview where it seems to close the file when I minimize it to the Dock roughly 50% of the time.

My needs are so basic. I work primarily off a web browser, terminal, email client and container management system. Even then I hit weird edge cases. I cannot imagine if I was a MacOS super user how frustrating this inconsistent yearly release cycle would be. #apple #mac #macos
