Everyone pays for search. The difference is whether you're paying with your attention, time, and private data - or with your wallet.
Yesterday I paid for a year subscription of Kagi (@kagihq). I had been testing it for a few days and it reminds me of the olden days of Google.
Clean UI that gives me results at the top of the page.
Google has gone overboard with the ads and sponsored results cluttering the interface. Not to mention the AI overview at the top of each search.
Study Finds That AI Search Engines Are Wrong an Astounding Proportion of the Time

These things are really good at being wrong.
LOL. I did a #Google #Search and that #AI Overview crap at the top, all its sources were from Quora. God help us all.
Quora is informative, but not trustworthy. It's not trustworthy because there is no fact checking the answers and no credential checking on those answering the questions. Answers can also reflect personal opinions and biases, which may not always align with objective facts or widely accepted knowledge.

Is AI search a bullshit generator?
Yes.
Confidently incorrect, and rudely ignores robots.txt, too! What more do you want from a search engine?

We are committed to surfacing content from the Small Web in our search results, which makes Kagi uniquely different to any other search engine out there.
It is not only part of our mission to humanize the web but we genuinely feel that this improves the quality of search results and discoverability of high quality, relevant content (created by humans!)
Looks like Google is overcompensating now for https://grumpy.website/1543. A popup saying Seach to the field that already says Search

#Mojeek #Search. Tried a couple of years back and struggled. They deliberately use a basic keyword search rather than second-guessing the user with semantic search. In theory I should like that, but couldn't get on with it. Last year they put in some *basic* semantics - typo correction, etc - and it feels much more usable. Trying it as a daily driver and probably falling back to another search engine 30% of the time (for slightly niche work stuff). https://www.mojeek.com
