Injury update post MRI. Physio surprised to see no Haglund’s deformity. He’s pointing out the issue - multiple small tears in the Achilles. There’s a small cyst too and some associated bursitis, but this is fixable with no surgery. Some eccentric loading on the offending foot to stimulate collagen production to repair the tendon and I should be sorted in 3-4 months. Feeling positive!

Aaaaaaand done: 2,000 kms of #Running in for this calendar year. It was raining cats and dogs for the whole length of the run, all my running gear is still wet through and through more than twelve hours after the fact. There wasn’t a single square inch of dry fabric on me after about two minutes (and they were followed by another 140 minutes). But it was great for breathing after weeks of very dry air – yay! I hope y‘all had a great start into the new week. #applewatch

Looking for lifting program rec’s.

I’ve been #lifting the last couple years, mostly the basic moves, with steady progression, based on Rippetoe “Strength Training. But I’m curious about exploring a more formal program. I’m looking for something to compliment #running, but also to be more rounded athletically and retain mass as I look at breaking half a century.

I’m looking for other rec’s and experiences.
- Some people on a discord mentioned “Tactical Barbell”
- I like lifting for power and strength
- Zero interest in the typical “20 reps, low weight”
- Prefer a book
- 2-3 workouts/week, 45-115min ea

My running career was blossoming until I got sick last October. A three-day virus turned into months of post-viral symptoms that beat my body down and made it impossible to train. The hiatus forced me to confront some hard truths about my identity, my sense of purpose and self-worth, and my relationship with the sport. I've published an essay over on the blog that details my experience over the past six months. It doesn’t contain much insight that can’t be had elsewhere. But it does contain the insight that I needed to have and that, perhaps, someone reading this needs to have too.

I don't know which boundaries are "correct", but as an observation, Stryd's are more uniform than TrainingPeaks.

It seems TrainingPeaks is more forgiving on what counts as productive training. But TrainingPeaks is also stricter on "race readiness", giving you a tighter window to make sure you're not losing fitness.

Both platforms have thousands of users. I'd be interested to heard the arguments from both on why they chose the boundaries they did.
