According to an investigation by Investico in collaboration with BOOS, Nederlands Dagblad, and De Groene Amsterdammer, the Dutch foundation Israel Heartland has allegedly offered to use donor money to subsidize weapons for settlers in illegal settlements in the West Bank.

The investigation revealed:

The foundation, based in Reeuwijk and having ANBI status, was founded by Israeli lawyer Nati Rom

Rom stated in recorded conversations that donations could help settlers purchase weapons by subsidizing "half or three-quarters of the purchase amount"

The Dutch foundation transfers European donations to an Israeli foundation managed by Rom

Board chairman Arjen Domburg advised using neutral descriptions for bank transfers to avoid suspicion

Cash donations were reportedly collected at events by Christians for Israel (Christenen voor Israël)

Rom allegedly uses "food vouchers" to financially support settlers who are on European sanctions lists, which experts consider a violation of EU sanctions

Both Rom and Domburg later denied most of these claims when confronted

Christians for Israel has reportedly suspended support to Rom's foundation pending further investigation and denies that any cash from collections went to Rom.

Dutch Christian organizations, particularly "Christenen voor Israël" (Christians for Israel), are collecting millions of euros annually to support Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, with at least €420,000 documented as going directly to at least 15 settlements in 2023. Christians for Israel has deep connections with Dutch politics, particularly with the #ChristenUnie party, with board members in both organizations.

In an undercover investigation, reporters posed as potential donors and spoke with Nati Rom, who runs a Dutch-registered foundation. Rom explicitly offered to use donations for "cameras, pepper gas and pistols" and discussed ways to hide these transactions.

These settlements are considered illegal under international law, and supporting them contradicts Dutch and European policy regarding the two-state solution. This funding contributes to the displacement of Palestinian residents.

When confronted, Christians for Israel denied financing weapons and promised to stop supporting Nati Rom pending further investigation. Other organizations mentioned in the article were either not available for comment or stated they don't distinguish between where people live in Israel.

Chris Hedges The writer and poet Mohammed el-Kurd, who is the Palestine correspondent for The Nation magazine, grew up in Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem. His childhood was dominated by the intrusion of Israeli colonists who steadily seized larger and larger parts of his neighborhood, ruthlessly evicting Palestinian families from their homes. Harassment, detentions, arrests, beatings and shootings of Palestinians by the Israeli occupation forces was a nearly daily occurrence. Mohamed, who earned an MFA in creative writing from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and a BFA from the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD), also came to understand that the way the world perceives Palestinians, and the way Zionists and their supporters manipulate the narrative of Palestinian dispossession, puts Palestinians into an impossible position, one he refers to as the “perfect victim.” Palestinians, dehumanized and condemned in western narratives, are repeatedly asked to prove their humanity, forced into the impossible role of perfect victims. “Dehumanization has situated us - ejected us - outside of the human condition,” he writes, “so much so that what is logically understood to be a man’s natural reaction to subjugation is an uncontained and incomprehensible, primal behavior if it comes from us. What makes some people heroes is what makes us criminals. It is almost simplistic to say we are guilty by birth.
